The value attached to classic movie posters is growing faster than most people would believe. Some classic movie posters are worth a fortune, especially the ones from the thirties and forties.
The reason these classic movie posters are worth so much has to do with how the studios sent the movies from one theater to the next. Back then there were stations that were responsible for getting the movies to the theaters and along with the movie the theater also got the movie poster.
The posters were folded up and placed in a pocket on the reel. When the theater got the movie they would take the poster out and hang it up. After the theater was done showing the movie they would fold the poster up and place it back into the sleeve to be shipped to the next theater.
This meant that the movie studios did not have to print so many posters. They only have to make a poster for each reel that was going to be shipped around to theaters. After the movie was done making its rounds the posters were discarded because most people never thought that they would be worth that much.
Most classic movie posters that are in collections are either from the Los Angeles area where they made extra posters to promote the movies or they are from overseas where they used a different system to ship movies around to theaters.
Oddly enough many classic movie posters were also recycled and used as insulation in homes in and around Los Angeles. Some people have been shocked to remodel their homes only to find classic movie posters tucked into the walls to block a hole.
If you are ever lucky enough to get ahold of classic movie posters remember that they are rare and many of them are worth more than a home in some areas.
