When I was a child I would dream that it was my face on all of the original movie posters that I used to have hanging around my bedroom. I would fantasize about being an actress and I even had my speech prepared for my first Oscar.
Over the years, I went to college and continued to decorate my rooms with original movie posters from different eras. Most of my dreams of becoming an actress faded, but I still enjoyed movies and the fantasy realm they seemed to offer me.
Now that I am older, I still decorate my home with movie posters and other types of movie memorabilia, while never really thinking that I was a collector. I currently have several hundred different movie posters, some dating back to my childhood.
I knew that someday I would have enough room to hang up all the original movie posters I had amassed over the years, but the other day I was reading an article about poster collectors and realized that some of the rare posters mentioned in the article were also in my collection. I was shocked to discover that I might have an original movie poster collection worth its weight in gold.
I never thought of myself as a collector at all, I was just buying things that I enjoyed and saving them. Now that I look back on it I have been an original movie posters collector for the last few decades.
You don’t have to be a collector to start a collection. Buying a few original movie posters every so often for movies that you enjoy is all it takes. Who knows, some day you might end up reading an article like I did, and find out that you have amassed a million dollar collection as well.
